JVJ-Silver Lining

I've waited for this trip since I first started playing golf. I promised myself that one day I would come to Scotland to experience links golf from where it all began. Yesterday we played Turnberry and I could not have been more excited. I was giddy as we stepped up to the starter shack and started introducing ourselves to our caddies. We hoped that one of the rounds would be played in crazy conditions just like we've seen on TV so many times before. Well, we got it right out of the gates, 25 MPH winds gusting to 46 MPH.

Nervous, as if I was actually on the first tee playing in The Open, I was loving life when I hit a decent drive down the right side of the fairway and into some manageable rough. I hit a decent iron into the green that drifted left and I would soon experience my first pot bunker. Again, I was loving life when I knocked it onto the green and gave myself a chance to save par. I missed the putt, but was quite happy with a bogey.

Four hours later I carded a 103. Yes, a 103. Don't get me wrong, my game was never going to threaten the course record, but 103 is disgusting, disturbing and down right embarrassing. I didn't make a single par. As I sat in my room sleep deprived yet still having trouble going to sleep I tried to look for a silver lining. At least it wasn't raining on us...at least my clubs weren't damaged on the plane...at least I have 8 more chances to make up for this ugly performance. Those silver linings didn't do much to help my bruised ego and I ended up staring at the plaster on the ceiling for another 45 minutes before drifting off to sleep. There's always tomorrow...

  4. If you shot a 103, I would have fired a smooth 120. You could be here cold calling. Have fun for us. Lysen
